Natural Dyeing Methods for Handmade Paper

Deluxe clamshell box housing 15 samples of handmade Japanese kozo created by the artist that have been brush dyed using fusticwood, logwood, and catechu natural dyes. Sheets have been altered with the application of various mordants to create an array of colors. Quarter sheet samples measuring 5 ¾ x 8 inches are housed in a removable tray beneath a hidden flap inside the box. This set also includes a detailed pamphlet with instructions for Japanese papermaking, mordanting, extraction, and dyeing processes.

Natural Dyeing Methods for Handmade Paper was researched and produced by Anne Covell between January and May of 2010 as her Final Project Thesis for the University of Iowa Center for the Book Graduate Certificate in Book Studies/Book Arts and Technologies.
